Live jazz returns to Ontario Beach Park with free concerts

The next concert will be July 14, featuring Onclave.

Paradigm Shift, founded by Melvin Henderson and Gerry Youngman in Rochester in the early 1990s, will perform Aug. 11. According to the group’s website, Youngman toured with classic R&B icons such as The Drifters, The Platters, Martha Reeves and St. Louis soul legend Walter Scott. Henderson has recorded and shared the stage with Al Jarrreau, Roy Ayers, Cheryl Lynn, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, and legendary organists Jack McDuff and Dr. Lonnie Smith.  Drummer-composer Sean Jefferson has performed alongside prominent musicians such as Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra conductor Jeff Tyzik.

On Sept. 8, the Darryl Parker Quartet will perform.  Parker’s website says the singer blends jazz standards, blues, storytelling and modern flair, inspired by legends such as Billie Holiday; Earth, Wind & Fire; Bob Marley and Bill Evans. He also is a tenor saxophonist and a songwriter who studied mechanical engineering at Rochester Institute of Technology.

The series will conclude with an Oct. 13 concert by Sofrito Latin Jazz Quintet, which performs Latin jazz fusion, Afro Cuban and Brazilian music.
