Deland McCullough, father Sherman Smith to appear on 'Tamron Hall'

Miami University Athletics Hall of Famer Deland McCullough tweeted that he and his father are set to appear June 18 on “Tamron Hall,” sitting down together ahead of Father’s Day “to share our story of identity, forgiveness, grace and family.”

In 2018, McCullough’s search for his biological parents was the subject of an “E:60” episode. He discovered that his biological father was Sherman Smith, McCullough’s former running backs coach and mentor at Miami.

Earlier in 2026, McCullough was named the Oklahoma University Sooners’ running backs coach. Last season, he was the Las Vegas Raiders’ RBs coach.

McCullough previously served as Notre Dame’s RBs and associate head coach. In 2021, McCullough left his position as the Kansas City Chiefs’ running backs coach to become IU’s RBs and associate head coach. McCullough also was the Hoosiers’ RBs coach from 2011 to 2016.

McCullough’s 4,368 rushing yards rank second in MU history behind Travis Prentice.
