An event organized by Broome County and Visit Binghamton will explore the culture and story of the county and coincide with the county’s celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.
The Path Through History Weekend, organized in partnership with I LOVE NY, will take place on June 20-21. The event seeks to highlight the county’s history, culture and natural beauty through various events organized throughout the Binghamton area.
Whether you’re looking to deepen your understanding of the area’s history, enjoy a day with friends or make it a family outing, the county’s Path Through History Weekend has something for everyone.

Broome County to host Path Through History Weekend June 20-21
Downtown Binghamton Sculpture Tours: Organized by the Broome County Arts Council, this guided walking tour of downtown Binghamton will explore architecture and sculptures.
Admission will total $10 per person, with registration available online. The event will take place on June 21, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Phelps Mansion Museum located at 191 Court St.
Phelps Mansion Museum Broome County History Day: During the Path Through History Weekend, the Phelps Mansion Museum will be home to local historians and guest speakers. Presenters will explore topics ranging from the history of the Binghamton asylum to music history involving violin and opera performances.
Admission to the speaker series is free, and will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 20 with speakers also planned for 11 a.m. and 12:10 p.m. on June 21. Paid tours available both days, with guided tours available 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and self-guided ones from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Floral Park Cemetery Walking Tour: Roberson Museum will be hosting a guided walking tour of the historic Floral Park Cemetery, where guides will explore the legacy of influential historical figures. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon June 20, and begin at the Floral Avenue cemetery entrance at 150 Floral Ave.
Tickets are available for $15 to Roberson members, and $20 to non-members.
Kilmer Mansion Tour: Binghamton’s historic Kilmer Mansion, located at 9 Riverside Drive, will be open for a docent-guided tour on June 20. The tour of the historic home, which was built in 1898, will start at noon, with admission available online for $12 a person.
Discovery Center’s Exploring Innovation and Play: The Discovery Center of the Southern Tier, located at 60 Morgan Road in Ross Park, will host more than 50 exhibits over the weekend, offering a great child-friendly option for families looking to explore history. The exhibits, held both indoors and outdoors, are interactive and will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 20 and noon-5 p.m. June 21.
Carousel rides: As part of the weekend, three historic carousels across Broome County will be open to the public. The Recreation Park Carousel, located at 103 Laurel Ave., will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days.
In Endicott, the George W. Johnson Park Carousel, located at 201 Oak Hill Road, and the Highland Park Carousel, located at 801 Hooper Road in Endwell, will both be hosting rides throughout the weekend. Both days, the carousels will welcome guests from noon to 7:45 p.m.
