Doug Gottlieb says Wisconsin basketball will play exhibition at UW-Green Bay

MADISON – Wisconsin men’s basketball could soon have a game in Green Bay for the first time in more than a decade.

The Badgers have verbally agreed to play an exhibition game against UW-Green Bay at the Resch Center on Oct. 15, Phoenix coach Doug Gottlieb said on the Wisconsin Sports Radio Network.

“The contract is not signed for the game,” Gottlieb said on the network of stations that includes 1250 AM and 105.7 FM in Milwaukee, “but verbal contracts are binding contracts, right?”

A UW spokesman did not immediately confirm the exhibition game, which is not a surprise considering the lack of signed contract. Gottlieb said in the radio appearance that it was not logistically possible to have it the night before the Oct. 18 Packers game.

The anticipated game would be Wisconsin’s first against UW-Green Bay since 2022 and their first in Green Bay since 2013. The Badgers have a 27-1 all-time record in regular-season games against the Phoenix.

The Oct. 15 men’s basketball exhibition would be the latest in a series of opportunities for fans in the northeastern portion of the state to see the Badgers. UW football will face Notre Dame on Sept. 6 at Lambeau Field, and UW volleyball played a spring exhibition against UW-Green Bay on April 18.

Known dates on the Badgers’ 2026-27 men’s basketball schedule include the Dec. 5 game against in-state rival Marquette and the Dec. 19 game against Auburn in Nashville.

UW also is due to play the second half of a two-game series against Villanova in Philadelphia, and CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein reported that UW will play in the Baha Mar Hoops Championship in Nassau, Bahamas.
