The KK Can Opener has claimed another victim.
The Canadian Pacific Railroad bridge, located on South Kinnickinnic Avenue just south of the Kinnickinnic River, is renown for cracking open the tops of semi-trailers. According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the bridge is a little more than 13 feet tall, which is about the maximum height of a semi-trailer.
But that might be generous.
On Tuesday morning, it claimed another victim at around 8 a.m., caving a trailer’s roof in and bending its side.
While some trucks have been trapped by the can opener, clogging the road, the operator of this Denali Transport trailer drove it out the other side. But a crane had to lift up the middle of the trailer, which had bottomed out.
In addition to having a nickname, the KK Can Opener has its own Facebook page, and T-shirts have been made emblazoned with a picture of a semi-trailer trying to make it under the bridge. And failing.
It even shows up on some maps, right there on the north end of Bay View.
A flashing yellow sign that states “low bridge” serves as a warning to truckers.
