Nail studio expands into new Monroe location

Butter yellow and lobster red will be popular color choices for nails this summer along with polka dots and stripes.

That is Tiffany Medina-Moore’s prediction. She owns Honey Nails Studio at 430 N. Monroe St.

The nail studio caters to clients’ natural nails and will be celebrating its new location on June 22. An open house is planned from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with vendor pop-ups, giveaways and retail discounts.

Formerly located at 440 N. Monroe St., Moore needed more space and has hired additional staff including her 18-year-old daughter Shaylee Moore.

The 37-year-old started Honey Nails in December 2023. The significance of the name comes from Proverbs 16:24.

“Pleasant words are like honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the bones,” Moore said. “I feel I was put in the chair to share with people and to listen to them and let them know they are heard.”

Moore transitioned out of the only salon she had worked in to start her own salon.

“It was for me to have a space on my own. As time went on, and with more conversations with God, things happened with God, he kind of breadcrumbed me into expanding so I added one booth rental,” she said.

Soon after that, Moore said her daughter showed an interest in the business and recently completed an apprenticeship in May and received her license. She is now working at the salon.

“She just graduated with her associate’s degree in business from the Middle College the day after she passed her state boards,” Moore said.

The studio employs four nail technicians who provide natural nail services focusing on cosmetic care, cleaning, trimming, shaping and polishing. Appointments can be made directly with a nail stylist or by calling Moore.

Moore’s salon is known for structured manicures, a builder gel used as a reinforced layer over natural nails and waterless pedicures.

“I was, to my knowledge, one of the first people in Monroe to offer a structured manicure which is why my business took off when it did,” she said.

Ballerina and almond shaped nails are popular now.

“Ballerina is like a medium to long tapered square and almond are more tapered at the end to look like an almond. Nails change on a seasonal basis,” she said.

Moore recommends keeping regular manicure schedules and maintaining healthy nails by keeping cuticles trimmed and in good condition by using cuticle oil. She recommends getting pedicures more than once a season.

“Foot health is actually really important,” she added. “If your feet are out of commission, you are out of commission. We do dry pedicures at the salon. It’s waterless and done with an e-file with different bits. Waterless pedicures are diabetic friendly because you are not soaking in water and thinning out the skin at all. It’s safe for anybody with a health condition.”

Moore said she is excited to see the business grow.

“This has been a very Jesus-led journey,” she said. “I did not set out with a goal to open up a nail studio. To me, being on the other side of the chair was to give people a safe place to come, to relax, to unwind, to talk about whatever they need to. Sometimes, it’s lighthearted and sometimes, it’s not. I’m not trying to make this an empire. I’ve just said yes to open doors when they’ve come open.”
