Florida baseball lands commitment from Oregon State LHP Trey Morris

Florida baseball has picked up one of the more sought out pitchers in the transfer portal.

Oregon State left-hander Trey Morris announced his commitment on Instagram on Tuesday, June 16.

Morris, who was named a freshman All-American, follows his pitching coach Rich Dorman, who was recently added to UF’s coaching staff.

The 6-foot-2, 251-pound pitcher logged a 1.98 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 7-0 win-loss record in eight starts and 16 appearances for the Beavers. In 59 innings of work, he allowed 13 earned runs, 34 hits, walked 15 and recorded 67 strikeouts.

Morris was named a First-Team Freshman All-American by Perfect Game and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Morris features a low-90s fastball and a mid-80s changeup that drew a 61.3% whiff rate in the regular season along with a slider and curveball.

Morris’ addition is a needed piece for Florida’s pitching staff, which was limited to one left-hander last season. By the end of the season, UF’s main left-hander Ernesto Lugo-Canchola made 30 appearances and finished with a 5.77 ERA.

Prior to Morris’ addition, Florida had one left-hander on its roster which is sophomore Jackson Hoyt after lefties Rivers Kurland, McCall Biemiller and Eli Blair opted to enter the portal.
