Millions of Chevrolet Silverado 1500 drivers can breathe easy. The all-new 2027 version of one of America’s favorite pickups will still offer the V8s they know and love — only better.
The Silverado is one of General Motors’ cornerstones. GM sold more than a half million of the pickups in 2025. The Silverado’s architecture, powertrains and electronics underpin pickups and SUVs that are the backbone of GM profit, production and employment.
Those vehicles include the GMC Sierra pickup — expect the new ’27 model of it later this year, too — heavy-duty GMC and Chevy pickups; Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban; GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, and Cadillac Escalade SUVs.
GM’s annual revenue from selling vehicles based on the full-size truck architecture exceeds many countries’ gross domestic product.
Chevrolet sells a Silverado every 57 seconds, brand global vice president Scott Bell said.
Despite all that, GM kept details of the new Silverado secret. Until now.
The 2027 Silverado should go on sale in late 2026. Chevy will announce prices closer to sales.

Legendary V8s reborn
The latest version of GM’s renowned Small Block V8s form the heart of the ’27 Silverado’s powertrain lineup.
Stellantis executives infuriated buyers when they abruptly pulled their iconic Hemi V8 from the Ram 1500 pickup a couple of years ago. Sales cratered, cobwebs bloomed in dealerships.
No fool, Chevy. The sixth-generation Small Block V8 was on workbenches at the time. Recently launched in the Corvette, it hits the mainstream with the 2027 Silverado.
The 6.6L and 5.7L V8s are more powerful and should be more fuel efficient than the engines they replace. The 2.7L four-cylinder gasoline base engine gets a 10-speed automatic transmission for the first time, making that smooth gearbox standard across the line, chief engineer Scott Carver said
A 3.0L straight-six turbodiesel completes the lineup.
GM will reveal power and fuel economy figures closer to when sales begin.
Execs dodged the question of whether there will be a hybrid Silverado.
Easy to use controls
The Silverado has all-new sheet metal for what Chevy calls a bolder face and stronger stance. There are more monochromatic colors along with new lights and grilles.
New exterior features:
The tailgate gets markings to measure lengths on the work site.
Chevy says the top High Country trim level will have a “less Western” appearance. What that meant wasn’t immediately apparent.
The interior promises better materials and loads of new tech, but key controls for volume, climate and other features retain physical dials, buttons and switches.
A 16.3-inch touch screen and 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster are standard.
Upper trim levels also get an 11.5-inch front-passenger screen that’s invisible to the driver when the truck is moving.
Top models also get a big new Multi-flex center console that has more than 5 liters of storage capacity and can be used as a work surface.
Chevy is mum on whether the Silverado would offer Apple CarPlay or the controversial Google-based smart phone mirroring system that debuted on GM’s electric vehicles.
