A child died after being struck by a car on the southwest side of Des Moines on Monday, June 8.
Des Moines police and firefighters responded to calls of a child being struck by a vehicle at an apartment complex in the 6000 block of Creston Avenue just before noon, according to a news release from police spokesperson Sgt. Paul Parizek.
“First responders arrived to find an 8-year-old boy with critical injuries,” the news release said. “The preliminary investigation indicates that the child, while riding a bicycle, was struck by a vehicle traveling through a parking lot.”
In an updated news release sent Monday at 2:19 p.m., Parizek confirmed the child had died from his injuries. The Des Moines Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating the incident, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
