Four people were injured in a southwest Detroit apartment building fire on Monday, officials said.
Firefighters were called at about 7:41 a.m. to a building on the 4300 block of Cicotte Street near Michigan Avenue for a report of an apartment blaze with people possibly trapped, said Corey McIsaac, a Detroit Fire Department spokeswoman.
The firefighters arrived at the building, which has 28 occupied apartments, within four minutes and 20 seconds, she said.
First responders arrived and found smoke and flames coming from the building as well as people at several of its windows, according to authorities.
McIsaac said firefighters used ladders to rescue multiple residents of the building.
A man who jumped from a third-story window suffered an injury to a leg and was taken to a hospital, she said.
A second man was taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation, she added.
Medics examined two other men at the scene, and both of them refused to be taken to a hospital, officials said.
The Detroit Department of Transportation sent buses to the apartment building to keep displaced residents out of the sun.
McIsaac said investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
She added that the city and the American Red Cross are working to help residents find temporary housing.
