NIMISHILLEN TWP. ‒ A woman was taken to a hospital after being seriously injured on the evening of June 7 during a house fire at 5423 Ford St. NE, between Canton and Louisville.
Fire Chief Donald Jordan said the woman was burned and cut her arm on glass while escaping.
The fire at the one-story wood frame house was reported at 8:40 p.m. Firefighters arrived six minutes later to find heavy smoke pouring from one end of the building.
The tenant and her guest were outside the house when firefighters arrived.
Seven dogs survived the fire. Two puppies were initially unresponsive. Firefighters revived them. They were placed in the care of the Stark County Humane Society.
“That’s all the renter was worried about was the two puppies that she couldn’t get out,” Jordan said. “She was worried about them more than herself.”
The Division of State Fire Marshal was scheduled to arrive June 8 to investigate the cause and starting point of the fire
Jordan said the house is a total loss. He estimated the value of the structure at $120,000, and the contents, at $100,000.
Firefighters left the scene at 10:54 p.m.
Nimishillen Township firefighters were assisted by others from the Canton Township, Louisville, Sandy Creek, Plain Township and Osnaburg Township fire departments.
