A 31-year-old CBS production assistant died in a car crash while covering the Memorial Tournament.
Bryce Adair of Augusta, Georgia, died after a June 3 crash while covering the tournament, according to media reports. The Dispatch has not been able to verify details of the crash.
CBS commentator Jim Nantz gave an emotional tribute to Adair during the network’s June 6 coverage of the tournament. Nantz said Adair died that morning, and “for 40 years, I have never seen our crew of 250 people go into a broadcast like this carrying as much grief as they are right now.”
Nantz described Adair as “an incredibly bright, charismatic teammate.” Adair joined the CBS team in 2017, he said. Adair previously won an Emmy for CBS’ Super Bowl coverage.
“The world was his, and he deserved the world,” Nantz said.
Nantz also addressed Adair’s mother during the broadcast.
“I just want to say to his mother, Michelle, thank you for sharing your remarkable son with us,” Nantz said. “We loved him, and he will never be forgotten.”
A GoFundMe created by CBS coworkers and friends before Adair’s death said he was being treated at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital after the crash.
“All donations will go towards Bryce and his family as they navigate this scary time to bring back our favorite guy who brings so much joy and light to all of us,” read the GoFundMe.
As of June 8, the fundraiser had brought in nearly $80,000.
