Historical aerial imagery shows neighborhoods springing up in Corpus Christi’s Southside like an Etch A Sketch.
Parts of Corpus Christi are entirely unrecognizable for residents who knew the area 20 years ago. From above, other areas look remarkably similar.
Here, the Caller-Times has collected aerial images that show how Corpus Christi has changed in the 21st century:
Since 2008, the Corpus Christi Independent School District has built several campuses on the Southside, including Veterans Memorial High School, Creekside Elementary School, Lexington Middle School, Kolda Elementary School and Adkins Middle School.
In Nueces County, populations have remained relatively steady since 2020, according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates. But the number of housing units has grown.
Other areas that have experienced growth, including London, are not included in this article due to the unavailability of clear aerial images.
Areas like the Westside and Flour Bluff look similar to how they did about 20 years ago.
Out on North Padre Island, some changes are visible from above.
At the northern edge of Corpus Christi, the construction of the new Harbor Bridge and the resulting changes to roadways are the most visible change between 2005 and 2025.
The Harbor Bridge project was particularly impactful to the Hillcrest and Washington-Coles neighborhoods, where many residents were relocated to make way for the bridge, an echo of previous times that the infrastructure projects changed the historically Black and Hispanic neighborhoods.
Across Corpus Christi Bay in San Patricio County, the towns of Gregory, Portland and Ingleside have seen substantial changes due to industrial development.
