The Standard-Times’ All-West Texas track and field team is back.
The All-West Texas track and field team is back to highlight the top West Texas, Concho Valley and San Angelo-area track and field athletes.
Over 100 local athletes represented the West Texas area at the 2026 state track and field meet at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin. After three days, athletes brought back over a dozen medals.
Athletes on the Standard-Times’ All-West Texas track and field team will be split into boys and girls teams, with 10 athletes on each team.
Each team will consist of a Most Valuable Player, one distance runner, one sprinter, one hurdler, one jumper, one thrower, one pole vaulter, two relay teams and a wild-card selection who can come from any event. The 800 meters is included with distance while the 400 meters is grouped with the sprints.

Most Valuable Player
Kohen Grantom, soph., Coahoma
Grantom cemented himself as the top wheelchair athlete in the state of Texas, taking home gold in the 100, 400 and shot put at the UIL state meet in Austin. He set new UIL state meet records in the 100 (15.18 seconds) and 400 (53.50) and was named the boys Athlete of the Meet. The sophomore also set a new national record in the 400 at the Region I-3A meet in Abilene with a time of 50.7.
Distance Runner of the Year
Caden Klingelhefer, jr., Mason
Klingelhefer won the UIL Class 2A 800 state title with a dramatic photo finish, clocking in at 1:57.77. His best time this season came a week prior at the Region IV 2A meet in Corpus Christi at 1:57.57.
Sprinter of the Year
Braylon Stewart, sr., Coleman
Stewart finished sixth in the 2A state meet in the 100 and 200 with times of 10.80 and 22.22, respectively. Throughout the season, he placed near the top of the West Texas Honor Roll in both races, with his best 100 at 10.69.
Hurdler of the Year
Slayton Hallmark, jr., Wall
Hallmark brought home silver medals in the 110 and 300 hurdle events at the 3A state track and field meet, clocking in at 14.33 and 38.38, respectively. The junior sat at the top of the West Texas Honor Roll for a majority of the season with a season best 14.03 in the 110 hurdles at the District 6-3A meet in Wall.
Jumper of the Year
Bryson McFarden, sr., Wall
An Angelo State track and field signee, McFarden set a personal best in the triple jump with a leap of 46-feet and 5-inches at the 3A state track and field meet, earning bronze. He also placed fourth in the high jump event with a jump of 6-6, nearly matching his season best 6-8, which was tops in the West Texas honor roll. The senior also recorded a 22-04.50 long jump at the District 6-3A meet, which was the second-best distance recorded in the area this season.
Thrower of the Year
Brice Roesler, jr., Richland Springs
Roesler earned gold in the 1A shot put and discus events at the UIL state track and field meet, hitting a season best 55-1.5 toss in the shot put. The junior lunged to the top of the West Texas Honor Roll in both events, with his 171-04.50 discus throw at the district meet nearly 20 feet clear of second place.
Vaulter of the Year
Trey Steele, sr., San Angelo Central
Steele narrowly missed out on a trip to the 6A state track and field meet after earning bronze at the Region I meet in Arlington with a vault of 15-0. Earlier in the season, the senior Bobcat set a new West Texas Relays record with a 15-1 leap and set a new personal best 15-6 at the area meet in El Paso.
Relay Teams of the Year
Wall 400, 800 and 1600 teams
The Hawks relay team set season bests in every race at the 3A state track and field meet. The 400 time of 41.37 earned silver, the 800 nabbed bronze with a 1:26.22 and the 1600 team’s fourth place finish set a new state meet record at 3:14.96. Their combined effort helped the Wall boys track team to a silver medal in consecutive seasons.
Richland Springs 800 team
After a bronze finish in the 400 relay at the 1A UIL state track and field meet, the team of Layne Howard, Ethan Deeds, Evan Deeds and Cohen Ethridge pulled a massive upset to win the 800 relay with a season-best time of 1:30.29.
Wildcard Selection
Cohen Ethridge, jr., Richland Springs
Ethridge ran the anchor leg for the Coyotes medal winning relays teams at the 1A UIL state meet, while earning silver in the 300 hurdles, clocking in at a personal best 38.50. Earlier, he placed second in the long jump event with a leap of 22-7.75.
2026 ALL WEST TEXAS TRACK AND FIELD GIRLS TEAM
Most Valuable Player
Danni Ruiz, jr., Menard
Ruiz defended her 400 and 800 gold medals at the UIL state track and field meet with times of 58.47 and 2:19.16, respectively. The junior added a new gold in the 1600, clocking in at 5:15.97. With three state appearances, she is undefeated in every race with seven gold medals to her name.
Distance Runner of the Year
Victoria Guerrero, jr., Coleman
Guerrero found her way back onto the medal stand at the 2A UIL state track and field meet this season with a bronze finish in the 1600 at 5:10.22. She also finished fifth in the 3200 with a time of 11:46.57. Both times topped the West Texas honor roll and were season bests for the junior runner.
Sprinter of the Year
Chloe Becker, jr., Veribest
Becker won gold in the 1A UIL state track and field meet in the 100 and 200. She dethroned Loop’s Kamryn Dyck in the 100 with a time of 12.20 and broke an all-conditions state meet record in the 200, clocking in at 24.78.
Hurdler of the Year
Jaycee White, sr., Wall
A Dallas Baptist University signee, White finished her high school career with a fifth-place finish in the 100 hurdles and seventh-place finish in the 300 hurdles at the 3A UIL state track and field meet. The senior set multiple school and meet records this season, clocking in with a personal record 14.14 in the 100 and 45.26 in the 300.
Jumper of the Year
Serena Cucuta, fr., San Angelo Central
The freshman burst onto the scene with a Region I-6A qualifying triple jump leap of 38-1.25, which tied her season best she set at the ASU Spring Break Invitational. Cucuta also had the best long jump in the area this season, recording a 17-11.50 at the West Texas Relays.
Thrower of the Year
Bree Lewis, sr., Coahoma
Lewis ended her career with the Bulldogettes with a fifth-place finish in the shot put event at the UIL 3A state track and field meet after tossing a 38-1.25. She recorded the best distance among West Texas honor roll qualifiers in the discus with a 128-4 and second-best in the shot put at 40-03.50.
Vaulter of the Year
Presley Parker, fr., Irion County
Parker set a new UIL 1A state track and field meet record with a gold medal-winning vault at 11-7. The freshman set a personal record 12-3 height at the District 11-1A meet at Mertzon in early April.
Relay Teams of the Year
Water Valley 800 team
The Water Valley 800 relay team of Brooke Woods, Adalyn Luna, Sydney Treadaway and Janaye Coston set a new UIL 1A state meet record with a time of 1:44.88.
Garden City 400 team
The team of Natalie Crownover, Emily Easterling, Claire Eggemeyer and Sydney Tomlinson earned silver in the UIL 1A state track and field meet, clocking in at 50.56.
Wildcard Selection
Khloe Bolander, sr., Christoval
A Lubbock Christian University track and field signee, Bolander finished her high school career with silver in the UIL 2A state track and field, clearing a height of 11-9.
