Two people die in Irondequoit house fire

Two people died Sunday after a house fire on Carol Drive in Irondequoit, according to the St. Paul Boulevard Fire District.

Firefighters were dispatched to the residence after reports of flames coming from the home. Both on-duty and off-going crews from the St. Paul Boulevard Fire District responded immediately.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions and launched an aggressive interior attack while conducting a primary search of the residence, said Fire Chief Ken Stavalone.

Victims found inside home

Fire officials said crews located two victims inside the home within 10 minutes of the initial dispatch.

Despite the rapid response and rescue efforts, both victims died from injuries sustained in the fire, Stavaone said.

“Our firefighters acted swiftly, making entry under difficult conditions, quickly knocking down the fire and locating the victims in a very short period of time,” the fire district said in a statement. “Unfortunately, the severity of the fire prevented a different outcome.”

Cause under investigation

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Monroe County Fire Bureau.

Authorities have not released the identities of the victims. Fire officials said no additional information will be released at this time out of respect for the family.
