In February, the Milwaukee Brewers organization donated $27,000 to help with the city’s potholes “Milwaukee Brewers donate $27,000 to help fix city’s pothole problem,” Feb. 24). Add the Brewers to the list of good corporate citizens, along with Bradley Foundation, as they help this summer to fill potholes in the streets of Milwaukee with money out of their own pocket.
The fact that the Brewers have to pitch in to help run city government is an indictment of the incompetence of Mayor Cavalier Johnson and the entire Milwaukee Common Council.
The core purpose of local government is to provide adequate roads, public transportation, garbage/yard waste pickup and public safety. At present, they collectively have failing grades on all fronts.
What next, Johnson is going to seek the help of the Boy Scouts to help Milwaukee Police keep the peace on Water Street and Brady Street? Given the city’s track record of managing infrastructure and crime, I wouldn’t trust Johnson or the Common Council to manage my daughter’s Girl Scout troop cookie sale.
City of Milwaukee political leaders who claim to care about city residents by touting their “hard work” should now be putting brown paper bags over their heads.
