With the return of summer to the region, the vibrant celebration of Pride Month is returning to Lubbock with LubbockPRIDE’s 14th Lubbock Pride Fest.
Here’s what to know and what people can expect at this year’s event.
What is Lubbock Pride Fest?
LubbockPRIDE is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit is an all-volunteer operation that hosts community events and raises awareness for LGBTQ+ across the Lubbock and South Plains region. The Pride Fest is one of its annual events. It is family and pet friendly.
“We’ve been doing this for fourteen years now, and every year I’m reminded how much this community shows up for one another,” said Chanté Geiger, President of LubbockPRIDE. “Pride Fest is one day where people can come out with their families and just be themselves.”
The festival will include live music, local artists, activity and vendor booths, and food trucks. This year brings new activities, including letter writing, bracelet and print making, tarot reading, and an inflatable basketball hoop. Main stage shows are family-friendly.
Confidential screenings through on-site health partners will be available throughout the day. It is open to all ages and is wheelchair-accessible. A sensory-friendly quiet space will be available in the Icehouse.
This year, there is a $1 admission fee for people 13 years old and older. Those who are younger get in free with a paying adult. The admission proceeds will support LubbockPRIDE events and security, and all proceeds go back into the community, according to the release.
