A Washtenaw County woman is planning a Florida getaway after getting a lucky draw in the Michigan Lottery’s Poker Lotto game.
The 56-year-old recently claimed her $100,000 in winnings from the May 16 drawing, Lottery officials said.
The player, who chose to remain anonymous, bought her winning ticket at Early Times Liquor Store, on East Michigan Avenue in Ypsilanti.
“I rarely play Poker Lotto, but I bought a ticket while I was at the store just because,” the player said in a Michigan Lottery Connect press release. “I looked the ticket over after the drawing and wasn’t sure if I’d won anything, so I gave it to my son to check.
“When he told me I’d won $100,000, we both started yelling and jumping up and down!” she added.
Poker Lotto players can win instant cash prizes ranging from $2 to $500. Additionally, a nightly drawing gives players another opportunity to win up to $100,000 if the draw matches all five cards on their ticket.
Each Poker Lotto play is $2. Tickets are available at retailers statewide. Odds of hitting the $100,000 grand prize are 1 in about 2.6 million.
The lucky Washtenaw County winner hit it big, matching all five of her cards — 10 of clubs, king of hearts, ace of hearts, ace of diamonds, king of diamonds — on the March 16 drawing.
“I don’t think it’s going to fully sink in that I won the lottery until I’m sitting on the beach in Florida in a few days. I’m buying my plane ticket as soon as I leave here!” the player said during her recent visit to Lottery headquarters in Lansing.
She also plans to share some of her winnings with family and pay off some bills, according to the release.
