While the Los Angeles Lakers prepare for what will likely be a consequential offseason, the Los Angeles Rams have made big moves as NFL training camp slowly approaches. They acquired cornerback Trent McDuffie in March, and just days ago, they sent rising star Jared Verse and three draft picks to the Cleveland Browns for star defensive end Myles Garrett, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year.
LeBron James has historically been a Browns fan since he grew up in Akron, Ohio, and Garrett said at his introductory press conference that he formed a friendship with James. James then posted a hearty welcome to Garrett on social media, per ESPN Cleveland.
The Rams are now considered the favorites to win the Super Bowl championship this coming season. Quarterback Matthew Stafford is coming off an MVP season, and they’re hoping to get one more Vince Lombardi Trophy out of him while he’s still able to play at a high level.
James has continued to play at a high level despite being 41 years of age. This regular season, his record 23rd in the NBA, he averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists a game, and he increased those numbers to 23.2 points, 6.7 boards and 7.3 assists a game. He is still a superstar-level player, even if he doesn’t sustain elite-level play for as many minutes at a time as he did a few years ago.
He’s about to become a free agent, and how much money he demands could dictate which direction the Lakers’ offseason heads in.
