Tequila's Town Mexican Restaurant abruptly closes after 7 years

After seven years, a family-owned and operated restaurant known for regional Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisine, as well as a world-class tequila selection, has abruptly shut its doors.

A sign taped to the front door on June 2 announced the permanent closure of Tequila’s Town at 13475 Atlantic Blvd., Unit 1, in Harbour Village near San Pablo Road in the Intracoastal West area.

Opened in August 2019, the Jacksonville restaurant was the first and only Tequila’s Town in Northeast Florida for the Savannah-based chain.

The restaurant on the closure sign thanked Jacksonville for “these wonderful 7 years.”

“We are sorry to inform you that Tequila’s Town Mex. Restaurant will be shutting its doors for good,” the sign said. “We really appreciate your business and loyalty to us. From all of our staff and from the bottom of our hearts. Thank You!”

Restaurant ownership couldn’t be reached immediately for comment. But an employee who answered the phone at Tequila Town’s downtown Savannah restaurant confirmed that the Jacksonville location has closed permanently.

Tequila’s Town known for fresh Mexican fare

Tequila’s Town had a reputation for made-from-scratch Mexican and Tex-Mex dishes featuring fresh, all-natural meats, fish and seafood, vegetables and fruit — locally sourced whenever possible.

The menu featured a variety of street-style tacos as well as appetizers, lunch and dinner entrees with fresh fish and seafood, chicken, beef and lamb. Also showcased were a variety of vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and pescatarian dishes.

The upscale casual restaurant also offered an extensive tequila bar, including its own brand, “Tequila Blanco,” which is 100 percent premium agave.

Longtime customers reacted with dismay as word of the closing spread on social media.

“This one hurts! We love Tequila Town. We just ate there a few days ago. So sad to see them go!” one customer posted on Facebook.
