SOFTBALL

Division 1 sectional semifinals

Kimberly 10, Neenah 4

KIMBERLY – The second-seeded Papermakers erased an early deficit with a seven-run second inning en route to the sectional semifinal win.

Kimberly will face top-seeded Appleton North in sectional final action June 4 in Kaukauna.

The Papermakers led 2-1 after one, but fell behind 4-2 in the top of the second. Kimberly then put the game out of reach. It closed out the scoring with one run in the fourth.

Sophie Hermus led the Papermakers with two hits, a home run and four RBIs, while Chloe Biese was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Paige Schreck and Breckan Luedke had two hits apiece.

Natalie Coffey and Kayleigh Johnson had two hits each to lead Neenah. One of Coffey’s hits was a home run.

Appleton North 1, Waupun 0

APPLETON – The Lightning scored the game’s only run with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning for the walk-off victory over the Warriors.

Both teams finished with one hit.

Charlotte Radtke singled to center field to score Alyssa Wald with the only run. Wald led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk, stole second base and scored on Radtke’s hit.

Radtke pitched a complete game for the Lightning. She allowed a double to Alexis Babaish for Waupun’s only hit, walked one and struck out 12.

Addison Braun pitched 6⅓ innings for Waupun. She allowed the hit to Radtke, walked two and struck out 10.

Appleton North will play Kimberly in the sectional final June 4 at Kaukauna High School.

Stevens Point 10, Hortonville 5

STEVENS POINT – The Panthers built a big early lead and cruised to the sectional semifinal win over the Polar Bears.

Stevens Point scored four runs in the first inning, two in the second, one in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the sixth. Hortonville scored one in both the first and second innings and three in the seventh.

Sophia Abundiz led the Panthers with four hits, including two doubles, while Callie Diekhus was 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and two RBIs.

Stevens Point will take on Green Bay Preble in the sectional final June 4.

Division 2 sectional semifinals

Fox Valley Lutheran 3, Luxemburg-Casco 2

APPLETON – The Foxes overcame an early deficit and then held off the Spartans to earn a trip to the sectional final against Denmark.

Luxemburg-Casco scored one run in the top of the first, but Fox Valley Lutheran answered with one in the bottom of the inning. The Foxes then scored two more runs in the second.

The Spartans scored one in the sixth, but could not complete the comeback.

Madison Babcock got the win in the circle for FVL. She allowed seven hits, walked one and struck out eight.

Tenley Wolfrath had two hits and Claire Pfrang hit a triple for the Foxes.

Claire Schleis and Alayna Deprez had two hits each to power Luxemburg-Casco.

FVL will play Denmark on June 4 in Plymouth in the sectional championship game.

BASEBALL

Division 1 regional semifinals

Neenah 18, Appleton East 2

NEENAH – The third-seeded Rockets used three big innings to make quick work of the Patriots in regional semifinal action.

Neenah scored seven runs in the first inning, four in the second and seven in the fourth.

Appleton East scored single runs in the third and fourth.

Gus Weinholzer earned the win, pitching three innings, allowing two hits, one earned run and two walks with seven strikeouts.

Powering the Rockets on offense were Cal Juckem, who was 4-for-4; Mack Krause, who was 3-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBIs; and Landen Sheppard, Owen Pire and Levi Boivin, all with two hits.

Blake Dietzen had a double for the Patriots.

Neenah will face sixth-seeded Hartford on June 4 in the regional final.

Appleton North 4, Green Bay Preble 0

APPLETON – The Lightning scored twice in the second inning and twice in the fifth in its win over the Hornets.

Colin Reddy and Owen Reuland both had two hits for Appleton North.

Cash Christianson went five innings for Appleton North to get the win. He allowed two hits and three walks while striking out seven. Reuland pitched the final two innings, allowing two hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

Green Bay Preble finished with four hits made up of three singles and a double. Will VanBoxel had the double.

VanBoxel started and took the loss for Green Bay Preble. He allowed four runs on six hits and a walk over 4⅓ innings.

Jackson Zegers pitched the final 1⅔ innings for Preble, which finishes with a record of 14-9.

Appleton North is 13-11 and advances to the regional final June 4 against Bay Port in Suamico.

Appleton West 3, De Pere 1

DE PERE – The Terrors broke a 1-1 tie by scoring a pair of runs in the sixth inning in their win over the Redbirds.

Appleton West pitchers Henry Ott and Kellin Gilbert combined to limit De Pere to three hits. Ott got the start for Appleton West and went 5⅔ innings, allowing a run on three hits and four walks. He struck out three.

Gilbert finished up, allowing one walk in 1⅓ innings.

Quinn Meyers had two hits for Appleton West, which will play at Kaukauna in a regional final June 4.

Charles Buysse took the loss for De Pere. He went 5⅓ innings, gave up three runs on three hits, walked five and struck out three.

Rory Obma had two hits for De Pere, which ends its season with a record of 18-10.

Hortonville 13, Green Bay East/West 1

HORTONVILLE – The Polar Bears will host the regional final against West De Pere on June 4 after defeating the Devil Cats in the regional semifinal.

Hortonville is now 19-8.

Green Bay East/West ends its season with a record of 1-20.

Menasha 8, Slinger 6

SLINGER – The Bluejays scored four runs in the second inning and never trailed in the win over the Owls.

Menasha added two runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh to hold off Slinger.

Trailing 6-2, Slinger closed to within a run by rallying for three runs in its half of the fifth inning.

Menasha, which had 10 hits but also committed six errors, will play at Fond du Lac against the Cardinals in the regional final June 4.

Slinger ends with a 16-11 record.

Division 2 regional semifinals

Little Chute 9, Luxemburg-Casco 1

LITTLE CHUTE – The Mustangs scored their runs on 11 hits in the win over the Spartans.

Little Chute took the lead with a run in the third inning and added three in the fourth, two in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Jaden Hermsen earned the win for Little Chute. The starting pitcher gave up two hits and one run over 5⅔ innings, striking out 10 and walking two. 

Little Chute accumulated 11 hits in the game. Gerrit Wittman, Trevor Verhagen and Will Jansen each collected two hits for Little Chute. Wittman and Verhagen drove in two runs each.

Ethan Dachelet had two of Luxemburg-Casco’s three hits.

Gavin Lax took the loss for Luxemburg-Casco. He allowed four unearned runs in 3⅓ innings on six hits and a walk.

Luxemburg-Casco finishes with a 5-10 record.

Little Chute, which is now 15-7, will host Denmark on June 3 in a regional final.

Seymour 3, Fox Valley Lutheran 1

SEYMOUR – Brayden Banker allowed one run while giving up six hits and striking out two in the Thunder’s win over the Foxes.

Seymour, which is 19-7-1, will host Xavier on June 3 in the regional final.

Xavier Salzman and Carson Staffeldt both had three hits for Seymour. Caden Steffens drove in two runs.

Fox Valley Lutheran finishes with a 13-10 record.

Waupaca 4, Chilton 3

WAUPACA – The Comets scored three times in the seventh inning to rally from a 3-1 deficit and defeat the Tigers.

The victory improves Waupaca’s record to 15-9. In a regional final June 3, Waupaca will host ninth-seeded North Fond du Lac/Oakfield, which upset top seed Kiel 3-1.

Nathan Mueller allowed four runs on eight hits and three walks and took the loss for Chilton.

Chilton finishes the season with a 14-11 record.

Winneconne 12, Ripon 2

WINNECONNE – The Wolves, who led 2-0 after one inning, broke open the game with an eight-run second inning in their win over the Tigers.

Ethan Duel led Winneconne with two hits, including a double, and four RBIs. Broderick Stille also had two hits. He scored twice. Andon Lang had a double, scored twice and drove in two runs.

Lucky Pahl pitched the first four innings and got the win. He allowed two unearned runs on four hits and five walks while striking out seven. Colson Kleinschmidt pitched the final inning for Winneconne.

Coy DeVries started and took the loss for Ripon, giving up 10 runs on six hits and three walks.

Winneconne is 14-10-1 and will face host Waupun on June 3.

Xavier 2, Notre Dame 0

GREEN BAY – The Hawks advanced to the regional final June 3 when they will face the Seymour Thunder in Seymour.

With the win, Xavier is 15-6.

Notre Dame, which had only two hits, ends its season with a record of 12-15.

Quinn Comerford pitched a two-hitter for Xavier. He struck out six and walked one.

Gavin Wiese and Easton Stempa had RBI singles in the fourth inning for Xavier.

Drew Magnuson pitched a complete game for Notre Dame. He gave up two runs on six hits and one walk. He struck out six.

Division 3 regional semifinals

Brillion 9, Algoma 1

BRILLION – The Lions advanced to the regional final with the win over the Wolves.

Brillion is now 22-4 and will host Bonduel on June 3.

Algoma closes its season with a record of 10-15.

Division 4 regional semifinals

Reedsville 1, Hilbert 0

REEDSVILLE – The Panthers scored the game’s only run in the fourth inning to defeat the Wolves.

Hilbert had three hits in the game – singles by Brody Hein, Aaron Halbach and Max Schneider.

Spencer Karls took the loss for Hilbert. He allowed one run on five hits and two walks while striking out three.

Hilbert ends its season with a record of 7-16.

Reedsville is 16-6 and will host Central Wisconsin Christian in a regional final June 3.

Marathon 10, St. Mary Catholic 3

MARATHON – The Zephyrs were ahead 3-2 after three innings but the Red Raiders scored four times in both the fourth and sixth innings to get the win.

St. Mary Catholic, which ends its season with a record of 15-8, was led by Caleb Vogel with three hits, including two doubles. Ethan Plutz and Owen DeWitt both had two hits. Plutz also had two RBIs.

Plutz pitched three innings and allowed four runs on six hits, while teammate Jacob Ernsting allowed six runs (three earned) on two hits and four walks.

GIRLS SOCCER

Division 1 regional semifinals

Kimberly 8, Hortonville 0

KIMBERLY – Vada Sousek and Ashlyn Krueger each scored three goals for the Papermakers in the regional victory over the Polar Bears.

Kennedy Ebben scored the other two goals for Kimberly. Krueger also had two assists.

Bee Brockert and Naomi Sotomayor shared time in goal for Kimberly but neither made a save.

Appleton North 7, Appleton East 0

APPLETON – The Lightning picked up its 18th win of the season with the shutout of the Patriots.

Appleton North will host De Pere in the regional final June 6.

Appleton East finishes its season with a record of 4-9-2.

Appleton West 1, Kaukauna 0

APPLETON – The Terrors needed just one goal to defeat the Ghosts.

Appleton West, which is now 4-8-3, will play at Brookfield Central in a regional final June 6.

Kaukauna has its season end with a record of 7-10-3.

Sussex Hamilton 3, Neenah 2

SUSSEX – The Chargers edged their way into the regional final with the win over the Rockets.

Neenah closes its season with a record of 8-8-2.

Hamilton is now 7-9 and will play at Divine Savior Holy Angels on June 6 in the regional final.

Division 2 regional semifinals

Slinger 7, Menasha 0

SLINGER – The seventh-seeded Owls scored six times in the first half en route to the regional semifinal win over the 10th-seeded Bluejays.

Slinger will face second-seeded Cedarburg, an 11-0 winner over Sheboygan South, in a regional final June 6.

Division 3 regional quarterfinals

Roncalli/Two Rivers 2, Little Chute 1

MANITOWOC – The Mustangs’ season came to an end with the loss to the Jets.

Little Chute finishes with a 2-13 record.

Roncalli/Two Rivers, which is now 6-9, will play at No. 1 seed Kiel in a regional semifinal June 4.

BOYS GOLF

Division 2

Seymour Sectional

SEYMOUR – Winneconne and Xavier took the first two spots in the team standings to both advance to the WIAA state tournament.

Winneconne shot 313 as a team to beat runner-up Xavier by two strokes.

The top two teams and the top three individuals not on qualifying teams advance to the state tournament, which is June 8-9 at University Ridge in Madison.

The Wolves are headed to state for the seventh time in program history. Xavier is headed to WIAA state for the 12th time.

Derek Watry of Xavier and Austin Dobbe of Winneconne both shot 74 to share medalist honors.

Seymour, the defending Division 2 state champion, didn’t make it as a team but did claim all three individual state qualifier spots. Vince Sigl finished third with a 75, Owen Sigl was fifth with a 78 and Tristan Drath was ninth with an 80 to advance to state for the Thunder.

DEERBROOK – Evan MacCaux of Kewaunee and Owen Reese of Shiocton both advanced to the state tournament as individuals.

MacCaux shot 73 and was the individual medalist. Reese shot 75 and tied for third place to also advance. Reid Votis of Crandon was the final individual state qualifier.

Three Lakes/Phelps and Mishicot finished 1-2 in the team standings to advance to state as teams.

Waunakee 12, Appleton United 10

WAUNAKEE – The Warriors built a 10-4 lead through three periods and then withstood a six-goal outburst by the United to secure the win.

Kayden Smit had four goals for Appleton United, while Kailey Heindel and Ally Rhoda had three and two goals, respectively. Candice Guerrero also had a goal for Appleton United.

Guerrero and Rhoda each had an assist for Appleton United.

Morgan Muntner had nine saves in goal for Appleton.
