Texas A&M’s postseason run officially ended in the College Station Regional on Monday night, as the Aggies failed to capitalize on Saturday’s 17-2 win over Texas State, falling to USC on 14-3 on Sunday night, after leading 1-0 during Monday’s winner take all matchup, the Trojans stormed back to win 7-1, and will now face UNC in the Super Regional Round.
Less than 24 hours after the loss, second-year coach Michael Earley made a massive staff change, dismissing the pitching coach and associate head coach Jason Kelly after Texas A&M’s pitching staff finished the year with a 5.24 ERA, while allowing 90 home runs. Even worse, the Aggie bullpen was not developed, while injury issues mounted.
Still, this isn’t the only issue that plagued Texas A&M’s chances of making it out of the Regional Round, as the offense fell flat in the final two games, while star hitters Gavin Grahovac, Caden Sorrell, and Chris Hacopian combined for just one hit on Monday.
All three players are expected to depart for the 2026 MLB Draft, placing more pressure on Earley to potentially hire an experienced hitting coach and to land immediate-impact starters from the transfer portal to pair with rising freshmen Nico Partida, Jorian Wilson, and Boston Kellner. After Monday’s loss, Earley provided his transfer portal plan, which starts this week.
Texas A&M has the funds and support to gain elite talent from the portal, especially on the mound, while Earley will look to lock down several key commits on the recruiting trail ahead of the 2026 MLB Draft.
