In the race to represent District 2 on the Ventura County Board of Supervisors, incumbent Jeff Gorell held the lead after early tallies were released.
Gorell, of Thousand Oaks, had 54% of the districtwide total, or 18,736 votes, according to the initial results released after polls closed on June 2.
Challenger Ashley Orozco received 39%, or 13,330 votes, and Mark Perryman had 7%, or 2,497 votes, the elections office reported.
Officials say that first batch of results reflects ballots received and processed before Election Day, including those mailed, cast at vote centers and put in official drop boxes.
Votes cast in person on June 2 are expected to be added to the tally by the last update on election night. Additional updates are expected to be released on June 4.
What to know about the District 2 Ventura County supervisor race
The county’s 2nd District includes parts of Camarillo and Thousand Oaks, as well as Somis, Santa Rosa Valley and Oak Park areas.
A candidate could win the seat outright in June with more than 50% of the votes. If no one earns more than half of the votes, however, the top two finishers will advance to the general election in November.
Gorell was elected to the board in 2022. Orozco, of Newbury Park, holds a seat on the Conejo Recreation and Park District. Perryman, of Thousand Oaks, has not yet held an elected office.
