Florida State was able to retain freshman defensive linemen Mandrell and Darryll Desir, which was arguably their best accomplishment during the offseason. However, they needed more bodies in the trenches.
They hit the transfer portal to get some new additions, and Texas A&M’s Rylan Kennedy committed to the program back in January. He spent three seasons with the Aggies and played in 37 games.
Kennedy registered 40 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and four pass breakups at Texas A&M. His best season was as a sophomore when he amassed 20 tackles, two tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and two pass breakups. In 2025, Kennedy finished with 14 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, and one pass breakup.
ESPN’s Billy Tucker feels Kennedy will make an impact in his final year of eligibility. He listed him at No. 95 on his top 100 newcomer rankings for 2026.
Kennedy brings Florida State a rusher with the ability to rush from different alignments. Though he played only one season of high school football, he has developed over the past few seasons with his athletic upside and a track and field background. This athleticism can be seen in his quick first step, good use of hands and the ability to close. With continued development, and filling an area of need, Kennedy could have an impact.
The Seminoles are entering their second season with Tony White as their defensive coordinator. They showed improvements in year one, but they need to take the next step next season. Kennedy will be in the rotation on the edge, and he already turned heads during spring practice.
