2027 Draft Summer Scouting Report: Adam Trick, EDGE, Texas Tech

Summer is here, sort of, and it is everyone’s favorite time of the year, scouting time. Every year, we do Summer Scouting to preview college football for Bucs fans, but also give them an idea of names to follow and watch in the fall as needs pop up for Tampa Bay.

Are we going to write about quarterbacks? Offensive tackles? Edge rushers? You know it, but why? Because other NFL teams will draft them, just as they will draft every other position. It all matters whether these players end up on the Bucs, the Bears, or the Steelers. We write these so Bucs fans can be the most informed fans.

Player Summary

Adam Trick is one of those edge rushers whose motor immediately jumps off the screen. He may not be the first player moving after every snap, but he rarely stops working once the play begins. That effort helped him turn a rotational role early in his career into one of the most productive pass-rushing seasons in the MAC during 2025.

The first thing I noticed was his versatility. Trick can rush from both a two-point and three-point stance, and he appears comfortable attacking blockers from either alignment. His primary pass-rush move is a rip technique where he works his right arm underneath blockers and attempts to power through contact.

I also thought he showed solid balance through contact. Against single blockers, he can hold his ground fairly well, but double teams give him problems on tape and could displace him from the point of attack. Hand placement is another area I would like to see improve. Too often, his hands landed high on the shoulders of blockers and slid upward, allowing offensive linemen to square him up and eliminate his leverage advantage.

The production is impossible to ignore, however. A 91.1 PFF pass-rush grade and 67 pressures indicate a player who found ways to affect quarterbacks consistently. As he transitions to Texas Tech and Big 12 competition, the next step will be proving that production translates against a higher level of offensive line play.
