Section V softball teams play regional qualifiers: See the winners

WEBSTER – Four Section V softball teams extended their 2026 season by at least two days after victories on Monday, June 1.

Regional qualifier games pitted Section V high school champions against one another in the four classifications which featured more than one sectional bracket. Winners earned the right to represent Section V in the New York state playoffs.

See below a roundup of Section V regional qualifiers in Class AA, B, C and D. Winners will play in NYSPHSAA regionals on Wednesday, June 3.

Champions of Class AAA (Rush-Henrietta) and Class A (Our Lady of Mercy) automatically advanced to the NYSPHSAA playoffs.

Penfield out-slugs Sutherland in Class AA

Claire Maley’s fifth inning grand slam highlighted Penfield’s 8-6 victory over Pittsford Sutherland in Class AA.

Maley hit a ball over the left field wall at Webster Thomas, stretching the Class AA1 champions’ lead from two to six runs. Maley’s home run grew even more important after Sutherland, the Class AA2 champ, crawled back thanks in part to home runs by Cara Orlando and Katie Sarr.

Avon downs Waterloo in Class B

Avon’s magical run will continue in the NYSPHSAA playoffs.

After winning Section V Class B2 as the No. 5 seed, Avon defeated Class B1 champion Waterloo, 6-1, in the Class B regional qualifier.

Jessie Crye starred again for Avon, going 3 for 4 at the plate with two runs scored while striking out 14 batters and scattering six hits in the pitcher’s circle. Payton Rice went 2 for 4 and scored three runs while Charley Pierce, Kyleigh DeRider and Violet Phillips each added an RBI.

Gwen Dilorio struck out nine batters for Waterloo.

Caledonia-Mumford outlasts Letchworth

An 11-run fifth inning sealed an 18-6 victory for Caledonia-Mumford over Letchworth in the Class C qualifier.

Colleen Talty went 5 for 5 for Cal-Mum, hitting for the cycle while scoring four runs and driving in three. Mia Wilson went 3 for 3 with two RBIs, three stolen bases and four runs scored for the Class C2 champs.

Kylie Padlick-Field hit a two-run home run and reached base on all five of her plate appearances. Shea Drazkowski drove in two runs and scored two more.

Bri Burel led Class C1 champion Letchworth with a triple, double and RBI. Makayla Mann added two hits and an RBI while Charity Scott, Lilly DeRock and Katrina Snyder each drove in a run.

Class D1 champion Oakfield-Alabama defeated Class D2 champ Avoca/Prattsburgh, 13-1, in the Class D qualifier.
