What are you doing this weekend? That can be one of the most anticipated, and sometimes dreaded, questions at the conclusion of a busy week.
While the weekend finally provides much-needed me time, it can sometimes be daunting trying to figure out exactly what is going on to participate in.
That’s why we did the work for you and rounded up some of the top local events happening here in Abilene.
Here are three local events you won’t want to miss.
Stars Over Abilene Quilt Show
The Stars over Abilene Quilt Show will return to the Abilene Convention Center on June 5-6, 2026. The public is invited to witness over 150 quilts on display, see the Quilts of Valor Presentation, and have the chance to bring home a quilt of their own.
Raffle tickets will be for sale for a queen-size quilt benefiting Big Country Family Services Health and Human Services, and raffle baskets will also be presented.
The show will be held from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. on Friday, June 5, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 6. Tickets can be purchased at the door, and more information is available online.
1884 Historic Reenactment
Frontier Texas! will host a historical reenactment based on the 1884 Pine Street Shootout on June 6, 2026, at 625 N. 1st Street.
The shootout starts at noon at the outdoor courtyard and will last approximately 10 minutes, with character meet and greets following.
The event is free to attend, and more information can be found on the Frontier Texas! website.
Grain Theory Downtown Block Party Beach Bash
Summer is finally here in Abilene, and Grain Theory will be hosting its 5th annual Downtown Block Party Beach Bash from 5 to 10 p.m. on June 6, 2026, celebrating warmer weather and beach vibes.
The community is encouraged to wear their favorite beach gear and meet in the downtown streets in front of Grain Theory to enjoy food trucks, local vendors, activities, and more.
New this year will be a “real-life mermaid” available for meet and greets and photo ops.
Admission is free, and more information can be found on the event’s Facebook page.
