DeWine announces $27 million in housing grants, but not in these areas

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has given the Buckeye State new highway rest areas, local drinking water infrastructure projects, demolition initiatives to create new opportunities, and a project that can create around 2,000 jobs during his second term in office.

Now, he has announced a grant of more than $26.9 million to support housing growth in Ohio, according to the governor’s website, but not every county in the state is covered. Here’s what we know.

DeWine announces $27 million in grants to support housing growth

The Welcome Home Ohio Program, passed by the Ohio General Assembly last year in the state’s biennium budget bill and signed by Governor DeWine, funded the grants to expand access to safe, affordable housing in 57 Ohio counties.

Ohio has distributed close to $86 million in grants in five phases to support housing as part of the Welcome Home Ohio program, but some counties – 25 in all – have yet to be awarded funding:

Individuals and charities in those counties looking to receive funds can apply for the next round of funding with assistance from local agencies, according to an FAQ on the Ohio Department of Development website.

“Whether it’s supporting workforce needs, attracting new residents to Ohio, or helping longtime residents stay in the communities they love, housing matters,” Governor DeWine said in a press release. “The projects we support through Welcome Home Ohio create safe and affordable housing options for families today, while building momentum for future generations to live their very best lives.”
