ST. PETERSBURG, FL – The Detroit Tigers activated right-hander Ty Madden from the injured list.
The 26-year-old will start for the Tigers on Monday, June 1, against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field, making his return from the 15-day injured list. He had been sidelined with a right forearm contusion after taking a 108 mph line-drive comebacker off his arm in his latest appearance.
Madden hasn’t pitched for the Tigers since May 15.
To open a spot for Madden’s return, the Tigers optioned right-handed reliever Ricky Vanasco to Triple-A Toledo. The 27-year-old posted a 15.63 ERA with six walks and four strikeouts across 6⅓ innings in five games.
Madden made a rehab start for Triple-A Toledo before returning, throwing 70 pitches across 4⅓ innings.
