APD said a preliminary investigation indicates the motorcycle was traveling south on Washington while a northbound vehicle was turning onto SW 40th Avenue. The motorcycle rider lost control while attempting to stop, laid the motorcycle down, and struck an unrelated vehicle in the turn lane before coming to rest.

The motorcycle rider, identified as 39-year-old William Bartlett, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital. On Sunday, Bartlett died from his injuries, and his family has been notified, APD said in an update issued Monday, June 1.

The driver of the passenger vehicle was not injured.
