Panama City man wins $1 million prize in Florida Lottery scratch-off game

The Florida Lottery has announced that Garey Payne, 50, of Panama City, has claimed a $1 million prize from the $25 million Gold Rush Multiplier scratch-off game.

Payne was at Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee on Feb. 6.

According to a Florida Lottery press release, Payne chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $638,100.

Payne purchased his winning ticket from the Walmart at 2101 S. Highway 77 in Lynn Haven.

“The $50 Scratch-Off game, $25,000,000 Gold Rush Multiplier, features two top prizes of $25 million and 60 prizes of 1 million,” the release says. “This game also features more than $1.2 billion in total cash prizes. The game’s overall odds of winning are 1-in-4.09.”

Scratch-Off games have awarded more than $72.2 billion in prizes, created 2,510 millionaires, and generated more than $21.28 billion for the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund, according to the news release.

Payne is just the latest Bay County man to experience good fortune in this game. In December, Mexico Beach resident Douglas Gammons also won a $1 million prize in the Gold Rush Multiplier scratch-off game (and also took the one-time lump sum payment.)
