After dominating Texas State on Sunday afternoon, the USC baseball team had approximately an hour break before they were right back in action. The Trojans faced host and No. 12 national seed Texas A&M Sunday evening, needing to defeat the Aggies twice in a row in order to win a regional for the first time in over two decades.
As it turns out, the short break was nowhere near enough time to cool off USC’s offense. The Trojans stayed red hot at the plate, putting up another remarkable performance by scoring nine runs in the first four innings. From that point, it was smooth sailing, as the Texas A&M crowd was quieted and USC cruised to a 14-3 victory.
To say that USC’s offense has been on fire lately would be an understatement. Over the past two days, Andy Stankiewicz’s team has scored an incredible 48 runs. After struggling mightily with runners in scoring position in their tournament opener on Friday, the Trojans have responded by turning into a wrecking ball at the plate in the three games since.
Now, the College Station Regional comes down to a decisive final game on Monday. USC and Texas A&M will square off again, this time with a trip to the super regionals on the line. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. Pacific time/8:00 p.m. Central time, with the game being televised on ESPN2.
