Worthington teacher Chelsea Hundertpfund dies after fight with cancer

A Worthington Kilbourne High School teacher who was battling cancer has died, according to the school.

Worthington Kilbourne High School wrote in a May 29 Facebook post that Chelsey Hundertpfund, a science teacher, had died.

Hundertpfund also advised the school’s yoga club, environmental club and Science Olympiad, according to the post.

“Her smile was infectious, her energy top-notch, and her care for kids unmatched,” the school wrote. “She will be deeply missed.”

The school’s post did not describe Hundertpfund’s cause of death. In May 2025, the school’s science department created a GoFundMe that has raised over $60,000 for Hundertpfund.

Hundertpfund was fighting a rare form of sarcoma-like cancer, according to the online fundraiser. She continued teaching her students while undergoing treatments.

“Because of the rare nature of her condition, many essential genetic tests and therapies may not be covered by insurance,” the Worthington Kilbourne science department wrote in the GoFundMe. “The financial burden of treatment, travel, and time away from work is significant.”

The GoFundMe described Hundertpfund’s resolve in continuing to teach while fighting cancer as “nothing short of remarkable” and said her greatest wish was to be present as her own children grew up.
