Texas A&M announces its starting pitcher vs. Texas State on Saturday

12-seed Texas A&M (40-14) entered the College Station Regional in a hole against Lamar, trailing 5-0 entering the fifth inning, as junior LHP Shane Sdao’s regular-season struggles seeped into the postseason. However, thanks to the top of the Aggie lineup, Gavin Grahovac’s solo home run started things off, followed by Chris Hacopian’s two-run shot that cut the lead to two.

Thanks to Gavin Lyons and reliable closer Clayton Freshcorn, Texas A&M shut out Lamar for the final four innings, and after tying the game at five in the seventh, Travis Chesnut’s bunt, leading to a throwing error, scored Ben Royo to take the first and final lead. Winning 7-5, Texas State’s late-night win over USC leads to Saturday night’s winner’s bracket matchup between the Aggies and Bobcats.

After missing the last four games, star sophomore pitcher Aiden Sims’ status regarding his potential return to the mound has not been clearly explained by coach Michael Earley, leading to the announcement that junior RHP Weston Moss will start vs. Texas State on Saturday night.

While this could mean that Earley is looking to save Sims for the next game, especially if the Aggies defeat Texas State and stay in the winner’s bracket, Texas A&M will need Aiden Sims to return to full health to return to the Super Regional Round and College World Series.

Weston Moss ended the regular season with a 4-2 record, 5.84 ERA, and 59 strikeouts. Texas A&M will face Texas State on Saturday at 8:00 p.m. CT, and the game will air on ESPN2.
