ROCHESTER – It’s often said that pitching and defense win championships.
Offense certainly doesn’t hurt, either.
No. 2 Pittsford Sutherland (20-3) blended all three against No. 1 Eastridge (22-1) in the Section V Class AA2 softball final. Cara Orlando’s three-run home run and stellar pitching from Julia Devaney led Sutherland to a 5-2 victory.

Julia Devaney retired all three batters she faced in the Eastridge seventh.

Sutherland added two runs in the top of the seventh inning. Katherine Kostick singled home a run before Gabby Lyons did the same.

Emma Johnson hit a leadoff double in the Eastridge sixth. Sutherland’s Julia Devaney, however, retired the Lancers’ next three batters to end the threat.

Eastridge answered Sutherland’s three-run second with two runs of its own. Josslyn Siembor and Eamma Johnson each logged an RBI single.

Eastridge and Pittsford Sutherland are set for a 12:30 p.m. first pitch at Gates Chili High School.
Where is the Eastridge vs. Pittsford Sutherland Section V softball championship game?
Gates Chili High School, located at 1 Spartan Way, will host the Section V Class AA2 final. The Class AA1 final will precede it, and championship games in Class A and AAA will follow.
