Colts QB Daniel Jones highlights next steps in return from injury

Following Wednesday’s OTAs practice, Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback Daniel Jones was asked if he would be ready to play come Week 1. Jones confidently replied, “Absolutely.”

With OTAs beginning this past week for the Colts, only about six months removed from his Achilles injury, Jones was on the practice field participating in the individual drills.

However, while he certainly seems to be moving through his rehab at a rapid pace and believes he will be good to go for the regular season opener, there are still boxes to check and hurdles to navigate as Jones continues his recovery.

“Definitely still work to be done and progress to be made,” Jones said, via The Athletic’s James Boyd. “So, I think it’s just continuing to get stronger, continuing to run faster, cut harder. And progress, kind of, according to the program. But it’s been good. I think we’ve we’ve hit all our marks so far and we’ll continue to do that.”

Helping Jones accelerate through the rehab process has been his “relentless” approach over the last several months, as head coach Shane Steichen put it. Watching Jones on a daily basis attack his rehab has been “impressive.”

One of the more difficult aspects of all this for Jones has been remaining patient, but in OTAs, he’s already seeing the payoff of that diligence.

“It’s the patience to stick with the process,” Jones said, via Colts.com. “Parts of it are tough, but it’s a different way of training and enjoying an offseason that I enjoyed a lot of aspects of.”

There are still a few more weeks of OTA practices, along with mandatory minicamp in the middle of all that, still on the schedule.

As mentioned, Jones took part in the individual portion of Wednesday’s practice, and we will see if he’s able to work his way up to participating in the 7-on-7 periods before OTAs wrap up.
