The No. 10-seeded Florida State Seminoles will play the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers on Saturday at Dick Howser Stadium in the Tallahassee Regional. It is an elimination game, with the loser’s season ending and the winner advancing to play on Sunday.
FSU (38-18) lost to the St. John’s Red Storm 6-5 on Friday, suffering its third straight loss. The Seminoles led 5-2 entering the eighth inning, but allowed four unanswered runs to blow the game and put themselves on the brink of elimination.
The loss snapped FSU’s six-game winning streak in regional play. The Seminoles had plenty of chances to extend their lead during the game, but went 5-22 with runners on and stranded nine runners. Gabe Fraser and John Stuetzer both had solo home runs for the Seminoles.
Bryson Moore started for the Seminoles and allowed two runs over 5.0 innings on six hits and a walk with six strikeouts. The Seminoles did use their top relievers to try to protect the lead, with Chris Knier and John Abraham both throwing 38 pitches.

This is the fifth time that FSU has lost Game One of the regional, with all the instances coming in Tallahassee. In 2008 and 2017, not only did they rally to win the regional, but they advanced all the way to the College World Series. In 2014 and 2018, they lost the second game, ending their season.
Coastal Carolina (37-23) is the No. 2 seed in the regional but was upset by the Northern Illinois Huskies on Friday night. They led 4-0 entering the third inning, before the Huskies scored 10 straight runs to take control. The Chanticleers fought back and got the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but a lineout ended the game 12-10.
FSU leads the all-time series against Coastal Carolina 13-1, including 1-0 in the postseason. FSU won the first 13 meetings before Coastal beat them in the final game of the series in 2015.
