Bengals' Cashius Howell reveals lessons from Boye Mafe, others

There’s a lot of hype around Cincinnati Bengals rookie Cashius Howell.

Those Bengals hinted they might have drafted Howell in the first round, had they been able to move around the order. Endless comments have suggested how thrilled they were that he fell to them in the second round.

Howell’s addition gives the Bengals another high-upside edge rusher in the wake of the Trey Hendrickson era. He’s been getting tips from the likes of former first-rounders Shemar Stewart and Myles Murphy, plus as well as notables such as trade acquisition Dexter Lawrence and free-agent addition Boye Mafe.

“He’s giving me inklings on the field. Things I can look at to help me play faster,” Howell said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “We definitely have a lot of traits in common.”

Howell is especially talking about Mafe, which is fitting: The Bengals are hoping that Mafe is an upside signing who can keep ascending upon arrival, just like Hendrickson all those years ago.

But this is about Howell. The rookie might not get a ton of snaps in the traditional rotation, but the Bengals have shown some interesting usage for him already.

Tack on some mentorship from key veterans, and Howell might just prove the Bengals right in a hurry.
