A new stand-alone emergency room building is coming to southwest Marion County, and the facility will be next to a popular retirement community.
Here’s what we know:
Where’s the building? 8231 SW State Road 200, next to On Top of the World.
Which company is building it? HCA Florida Healthcare.
When will the building open? The building is expected to be up and running in the spring of 2027.
HCA said the location will be accessible by golf cart as well as other vehicles.
What’s the name of the facility? HCA Florida Canopy Oak Emergency.
What’s the cost? What are the facility’s features? Hospital officials said the cost of the 11,000-square-foot building is $15 million.
Among the features: 11 emergency exam rooms, CT scan, general X-ray and on-site laboratory services.
HCA says this will be a “full-service, fully staffed emergency room, employing 45 full-time healthcare professionals, including emergency physicians, nurses and other clinicians ready to serve the community with the same capabilities as the emergency departments at HCA Florida Ocala Hospital and HCA Florida West Marion Hospital.”
Once finished, it will be “the sixth free-standing emergency room that HCA Florida Healthcare has opened in Marion and Sumter counties,” HCA said.
Within the past six years, HCA Florida Healthcare says, it has significantly expanded its offerings in the community. Some examples:
In April, hospital officials unveiled plans for “a nearly $200 million expansion of HCA Florida Ocala Hospital.” The project, hospital officials said, “will add 16 new beds to the main ICU and two new 26-bed medical/surgical/telemetry units to support expanded surgical services, in addition to other improvements on the campus.”
