Brendan Sorsby placed 40+ IU football bets while Hoosiers QB | Report

Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby placed at least 40 bets involving Indiana football while QB for the Hoosiers, used sportsbook accounts registered to a family member and friends to wager approximately $90,000 over four years, and continued to gamble after transferring from the University of Cincinnati to Texas Tech, ESPN’s Mark Schlabach and David Purdum reported May 29.

Texas Tech announced May 26 that the NCAA denied Sorsby’s request for reinstatement for eligibility for the 2026 college football season. Texas Tech president Lawrence Schovanec said the university would appeal the decision.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that Sorsby completed a 35-day in-patient rehab for his gambling addiction at Algamus in Goodyear, Arizona, adding that Sorsby was expected to return to campus, with a court date scheduled for June 1 in Lubbock County.

State gaming regulators in Ohio and Indiana reportedly launched investigations earlier in May into Sorsby’s alleged betting activity.

Sorsby could pursue the NFL’s supplemental draft, which likely would take place sometime in early-to-mid July.
