A 32-year-old truck driver suffered serious injuries on Friday, May 29, when he drove a box truck into a church in Kent County.
The Michigan State Police said motor carrier officers assisted the Kent County Sheriff’s Office at at crash on 4 Mile Road, northwest of Grand Rapids, where the truck driver went off the road and struck the Trinity Congregational Church.
Both the driver and his 32-year-old passenger, who suffered minor injuries, were transported to an area hospital, the MSP said.
The MSP said the truck driver was eastbound when he looked at a tablet and was distracted. The passenger said the driver swerved to avoid a mailbox, overcorrected, crossed the center line, and crashed into the church.
