Woman, 70, dies after car-pedestrian crash in Lansing

This story has been updated with the correct location of the crash after Lansing police corrected a news release.

LANSING — A 70-year-old woman died after being struck by a vehicle on Thursday, May 28, police said.

The crash happened about 10:50 p.m. in the area of South Cedar and East Kalamazoo streets, Lansing police said in a news release sent late Friday morning.

Medics tended to the woman, but she was later pronounced dead at a hospital, they said.

Lansing Police Chief Rob Backus said the 24-year-old man who was driving the vehicle that struck the woman was cooperating with invesigators, and police do not belive that speed or alcohol were factors. The man was not injured, he said.

“Accident investigators continue to gather facts related to the events leading up to the incident,” police said in the news release. “We request that anyone with information regarding the event contact the Lansing Police Department at (517) 483-4600.
