SHEBOYGAN – A 51-year-old Sheboygan man died after a bicycle crash in the parking lot of Horace Mann Middle School on Friday morning, May 29, according to Sheboygan police.
Officers were dispatched at about 6:40 a.m. and found the man dead from injuries sustained in the crash, police said.
In response, the Sheboygan Area School District closed Horace Mann Middle School for the day and thanked families for their understanding and flexibility.
The district encouraged families of Horace Mann students to refer to school correspondence for additional information.
Police did not immediately release additional details about the circumstances of the incident.
Earlier May 29, the school had announced in a Facebook post that Horace Mann informed parents, staff and students that school would be canceled for the day.
Eighth grade awards ceremony, school dance will proceed as scheduled
In an update Friday afternoon, the school announced the Eighth Grade Award Recognition Ceremony and Eighth Grade School Dance would move forward as planned.
The dance will take place after the awards ceremony and is scheduled to end at 9:30 p.m.
As previously planned, students may begin arriving at 6:30 p.m., and the ceremony is set to begin at 7 p.m. School officials said they look forward to celebrating students’ achievements with the community.
