Records show new details after man indicted in deadly 2025 Lubbock shooting

A 23-year-old man was indicted Tuesday by a Lubbock County grand jury in connection with the shooting death of a 33-year-old man last year at his central Lubbock home.

Enoch Irvin Jr. is charged with murder in the May 29 shooting death of Roshaud Ward at his home in the 3400 block of 23rd Street.

Investigating a deadly shooting at a Lubbock home

The charge stems from a Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit investigation that began after Ward’s wife called police to report a dead body at his home in the 3400 block of 23rd Street.

Responding officers found Ward dead from a gunshot wound in the living room.

“Ward was a known marijuana dealer,” the warrant states. “It is not uncommon for marijuana dealers to be targeted to be robbed.”

Irvin, who was arrested in July after prosecutors filed to revoke his probation for a 2023 evading arrest with a vehicle charge, was identified as a suspect in the shooting after investigators obtained video evidence from home security cameras in the area and phone records that linked him to Ward, according to a warrant.

Ward’s phone records showed Irvin sent a text message to Ward on May 23 that was unanswered. However, investigators found more messages that indicated Irvin bought marijuana from Ward at least four times in January and February of 2025, the warrant states.

Meanwhile, video footage from security cameras in the area showed a vehicle, later identified as a 2019 Dodge Journey, driving around the area in the days leading up to the shooting.

The vehicle could be seen circling the area about 3:49 a.m. on May 28. At some point, a bright light that appeared to have come from a gun muzzle flashed from the interior front of Ward’s home, the warrant states.

Investigators learned that the Dodge Journey was the subject of a traffic stop about a week before the shooting. Irvin, who was driving the vehicle, was given a ticket and released.

Court records show Irvin’s probation was revoked in September and he was sentenced to two years in prison, which he was serving in Fort Stockton.

Jail records show he was returned to Lubbock on April 27 to face the murder charge and is being held at the Lubbock County Detention Center.

His bond is set at $250,000.
