The Portola Festival is all about that bass, and the lineup for this year’s festival on Sept. 20-21 at Pier 80 in San Francisco has just dropped, featuring Robyn, Zara Larsson, Swedish House Mafia, Tiesto and many more.
Organized by Goldenvoice, the Los Angeles promoter known for the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and the Stagecoach country music festival, Portola began in 2022. The festival is named after the 1909 city festival in San Francisco that celebrated the city’s rebirth following the 1906 earthquake. Portola features mostly DJs and electronic music, but has included rap artists, indie-dance band LCD Soundsystem, and pop artist Christina Aguilera in previous years.

Portola was inspired by San Francisco’s warehouse rave scene
In a 2023 interview with The San Francisco Standard, Danny Bell, the founder of Portola and a talent buyer at Goldenvoice, described his vision for the festival as an “autobiography of the underground rave culture.” This culture inspired him to move to San Francisco from New York in 2016.
Portola Festival includes four stages. The Crane Stage serves as the main outdoor stage. The Warehouse is a hangar that hosts prominent names from the lineup. The Pier Stage is located along the waterfront, while the Ship Tent is a covered open-air structure.
