The Miami Dolphins are back on the field this week continuing their organized team activities at the Baptist Health Training Complex in preparation for their first season under new head coach Jeff Hafley.
On Wednesday, the Dolphins hosted just their second OTA session that was open to the media, and before the practice started, Hafley revealed that right tackle Austin Jackson wouldn’t participate.
While Miami took an offensive tackle in the first round of the 2026 NFL draft, Hafley revealed that they have a specific plan for Kadyn Proctor and the rest of the offensive line group while Jackson is sidelined, which is a little different than their strategy for rookie cornerback Chris Johnson in the secondary.
“Yeah, I think it’s case-by-case,” Hafley said. “I mean Chris is going to play inside and outside. We got to be careful overloading any young player, but we also have to get a feel for the players and see how much that they can handle. Quickly we’ve seen that Chris is capable of handling multiple positions, so you’ll see him on the inside, you’ll see him on the outside. He’ll be doing both.
“Proctor, you’ll see on one side right now, Jonah (Savaiinaea), you’ll see on one side right now, and we’ll just keep him on those sides and let them get comfortable. So it’s case by case, and I think that’s our job as coaches is to figure that out. Some guys, we’re still not sure yet. Practice has been limited. Team reps have been limited, and we’ll figure that out in training camp.”
Miami seems to want to keep things simple for Proctor as he already has his hands full with a transition to guard from tackle this year. With Jackson entering the final year of his contract, it will be interesting to see if the team wants to get the rookie reps at his possible future position at some point, but for now, they’re playing it safe.
