Jaguars WR/CB Travis Hunter trying to soak up knowledge during rehab

Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback/receiver Travis Hunter may not be participating in team or individual drills yet this offseason, but he has taken up a second residence of sorts in a walk-through room to make sure he is assignment ready when cleared for football activities.

“That’s super important because I can’t go outside and get live reps,” Hunter said on Wednesday, May 27. “Having that room, having to build (that room) a lot bigger than what I expected, was great. I go in there every single day for about 15-30 minutes throughout the day and continuously (walk-through) reps. I can burn out 30-40 reps in 15 minutes and just continue to try to build on my knowledge of football.”

On offense and defense, right?

“Yeah, that room works both ways,” Hunter said with a grin.

Hunter’s media availability was his first since after the Jaguars’ loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Oct. 19, 2025, in London. He injured his right lateral collateral ligament in practice on Oct. 30 and had surgery on Nov. 11, ending his season after seven games.

During the Jaguars’ opening organized team activity on May 26, Hunter observed the offensive side while standing well behind the line of scrimmage. He wore an ear piece to hear the play call from coach Liam Coen to quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

“You have to be really focused,” Hunter said of the observational process. “You can’t retain a lot unless you go in there and try to learn as much as you can every single day because you’re not getting those live reps. I try to sneak in there (near the huddle) and get as much knowledge as I can from everybody and try to help the younger guys.”

How is the rehab process coming along?

“I feel good,” Hunter said.

Close to being full go?

“No telling,” Hunter said. “Just got to continue to work.”

Hunter’s appearance kicked off Planet Fitness’ Free High School Summer Pass program that allows kids ages 14-19 to use any Planet Fitness for free from June 1-Aug. 31.

Asked what made Planet Fitness the right fit to join forces with, Hunter recalled his childhood.

“Being 14, I wish I would have had this opportunity to be able to come to a place where I don’t to pay (a fee) and I didn’t have to sign up for anything — just come in and work out, chill with my buddies in the gym, making sure we were getting better and staying out of trouble,” Hunter said. “When I stayed in South Florida (where he lived until junior high), I didn’t have that many resources so if I was able to get to a Planet Fitness at that age, it probably would have done a lot for me.”

After his media availability, Hunter posed for selfies with the young athletes.

Hunter said young athletes benefit by training together to form strong bonds.

“That time-frame is really important, going from middle school to high school and trying to get bigger, faster, stronger,” Hunter said. “It was definitely important for me.”

Definitely important to the Jaguars this year is getting Hunter back healthy. He should enter training camp as a starting cornerback opposite Buster Brown and the Jaguars have made it clear Hunter will also be involved offensively at receiver.

Has Hunter started thinking about the Jaguars’ Week 1 game against the Cleveland Browns?

“I got to get back on the field first so I’m excited to just be able to get back on the field and work with the guys,” he said.
