Texas Governor race has Gov. Greg Abbott, Gina Hinojosa on runoff wins

Texas Democratic governor candidate Gina Hinojosa wasted no time in calling the Republican ticket just as ‘corrupt’ as Gov. Greg Abbott.

“This is the most corrupt ticket in Texas history,” Hinojosa said in a statement released on Tuesday, May 26. “Ken Paxton and every Republican candidate on the ballot now shares the ticket with Greg Abbott and his record of higher prices, shuttered neighborhood schools, and a government that works for billionaires instead of working families — it’s the Greg Abbott Corruption Tax.”

Hinojosa further contended Abbott’s campaign is concerned over losing his majority and statewide seats. She again cited notable wins by Democrats in traditionally Republican districts as a sign of a potential blue wave in the state.

“From the Gulf Coast to North Texas, voters have turned out in record numbers to reject Abbott’s corrupt agenda,” Hinojosa said. “This November, Texans will take back our communities and vote for leaders who will actually lower costs, protect their schools, and put them first.”

Gov. Greg Abbott boasts ‘conservative’ values ticket

Following the victory of Ken Paxton over Sen. John Cornyn, R-TX, in Tuesday’s runoff election for U.S. Senate, Gov. Greg Abbott sounded off, calling for party unity.

“Tonight, Texans chose strong, conservative leaders who will fight to keep Texas safe, prosperous, and free,” Abbott said. “A united Republican Party will drive victory, and with the primaries complete, we are laser focused on delivering a decisive victory in November. Together, we will crush socialist Democrats’ dream of turning Texas blue with the same failed policies that have brought chaos to states like California, New York, and Minnesota.”

Abbott argued Texans have rejected “the Democrats’ agenda” of open borders, soft-on-crime policies, and higher taxes before claiming voters will “reject them again this November,” he said in a statement on Tuesday, May 26.

Abbott also contended that the party can now focus on taking aim at Democrats in the midterm election on Nov. 3.
