Logan Henderson won’t be making his scheduled start May 27 as expected, and instead will be on the shelf for another couple of weeks.
Henderson was placed on the 15-day injured list prior to the Milwaukee Brewers game May 26 with lower back tightness, which he experienced during his most recent outing. Coleman Crow was recalled from Class AAA Nashville and will start on May 29.
The right-hander pitched five scoreless innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 22 but didn’t recover as hoped.
“In the third or going back out for the fourth, just tweaked something and was fighting through it the rest of the game, was trying to leave it all out on the field there,” Henderson said. “After the game I didn’t feel my best and I haven’t recovered the way I wanted to.”
The Brewers are projecting a mid-June return for Henderson, who’s been shut down from throwing since the injury but doesn’t “want to turn this into something longer than it needs to be.”
Henderson is off to a smashing start to his MLB career, becoming the first player since at least 1901 to begin his career by making 10 straight starts with two or fewer runs allowed. In five starts and 23 innings this season, Henderson has a 2.74 ERA.
“I absolutely tried to work through it,” Henderson said. “You could ask anybody in the locker room or throughout the league, everybody’s dealing with something. But there’s certain things that are giving me fits in everyday life with the lower back. We’re making progress on it but if putting on my shoes is hard a couple days ago, it’s hard to throw a baseball.”
