Clay junior Caden Looney is the new Florida Times-Union Boys Athlete of the Week for Northeast Florida high school sports for the 2025-26 season, covering the week of May 10-16, 2026 in the Jacksonville area.
In rare Sunday baseball, he reached base all three times with a double and two runs scored as the Blue Devils defeated Choctawhatchee 6-3 to win the Region 1-4A championship.
He placed first in a vote of top Northeast Florida performers that included Kendall Carter (Union County baseball), Brayden Harris (St. Johns Country Day baseball) and Mikel Morgan (Columbia football).

This week’s Boys Athlete of the Week vote
It’s time to vote for Florida Times-Union’s boys High School Athlete of the Week for the week of May 18-23, 2026.
The Times-Union gathers nominees from scores, stats and nominations e-mailed to the sports desk during the week by coaches across Northeast Florida. Coaches can e-mail these stats and scores to preps@jacksonville.com. Deadline to receive nominations is 7 p.m. Saturdays.
Because of the Memorial Day holiday, this week’s voting begins Tuesday morning and closes at 10 a.m. Friday, May 29. Votes are restricted to once per device per hour. Vote at jacksonville.com/sports.

Drake Batts, Ridgeview football
The sophomore scored a 60-yard fumble recovery on the opening drive in a 24-0 shutout of Crescent City.
Tyler Ellis, Trinity Christian baseball
The senior batted .571 in the final four and doubled three times as Trinity won the Class 2A championship.
Zion Green, Raines football
The sophomore caught a 30-yard touchdown on offense and intercepted a pass on defense as Raines won 27-20 against Nease.
Tucker Henderson, Ponte Vedra football
The junior caught 12 passes for 141 yards and a touchdown in the Sharks’ 36-18 spring football win over Riverside.
JC Rosette, Clay baseball
The junior singled, stole a base and scored a run against Tampa Jesuit in the Class 4A semifinal.
Camden Tietze, Bolles football
The junior caught two acrobatic touchdowns in the varsity portion of the spring game against White.
